No Child Left Behind (NCLB) requires districts to publicly report the annual progress for the district as a whole and for each of its campuses in meeting the State’s measurable objectives in four areas: (1) Percentage of classes taught by highly qualified teachers; (2) percentage of classes taught by highly qualified teachers for high-poverty schools; (3) percentage of highly qualified teachers; and (4) percentage of teachers receiving high-quality professional development. Since school year 2005-2006, the State’s target has been 100% in all areas.
The teacher who has not met the requirements for Highly Qualified in their current teaching assignment is working to fulfill these requirements as required in a professional development plan.
