THE SUPERINTENDENT’S VIEW
From the desk of TISD Superintendent, Dr. Mid Johnson:
We have all heard the old expression, “Talk is cheap”. It all depends on what you are talking about. Recently, it has gotten around that big things are happening at TISD. Our Lady Bears are in the playoffs, and word has gotten all the way to the University of Northern Iowa about our Bears InThe Sky Project. Now that’s worth talking about.
It is always a good thing to talk about the accomplishments and potential of our students. We have many reasons to be proud of our district. Words like Pride, Unity, and Love are powerful and necessary to the success of any organization. People like to feel connected to something they can take pride in. It builds an attitude of community and enthusiasm that is valuable to everyone. School pride and community pride, are interrelated and help the entire area to have hope and feel good about the future.
For all of us to be out there in the community saying things like: “I love my job.”; “I’m looking forward to a winning season this year.” ; “Timpson ISD is a great place to live and work.”; “I love it here!”; is important to our district. Words like these are powerful and valuable. Teachers understand the power of language. The power of words can build up and tear down. Children and adults alike need to hear, “I love you” and “You’re doing a good job”. In the home, the community, and the classroom, talk is not cheap. It is the stuff of life.
