THE SUPERINTENDENT’S VIEW
From the desk of TISD Superintendent,
Dr. Mid Johnson:
I recently heard an author and champion for America’s public schools by the name of Jamie Vollmer make this statement, “A far better indicator of success than SAT or ACT scores is the feeling of hope in students.” Hope is a powerful motivator for all of us. Whether we are in the business of educating or a student in the classroom, we perform better when we are hopeful for our future.
In the light of this truth, I want to assure everyone that the Board and I will continue to lead TISD to use all our resources to best serve the needs of our kids. I write this because the lower court has recently deemed the current Texas Education Funding mechanism to be inadequate and unconstitutional. This will certainly go to the Texas Supreme Court to be resolved if it is ever resolved. These issues are continually being contested in the courts. This added to the State and federal budget shortfalls has led to budget problems for many districts.
In the meantime we must still have school and deal with whatever the courts and politicians decide. Whether it is another standardized test or another budget cut in State or federal funds, we will manage and continue to have a successful school. Our Board, student body, employees, and community make our school successful, not those folks in Austin or Washington. Hope springs eternal in our hearts because of who we are not because of what “they” do. Be assured, TISD is in good shape and has a bright future!
